The origin story
Cir. Dec. 1999, I had an amazing, if not life-changing, experience spending a week interning/shadowing the marketing and communications lead for Billboard Magazine's online division. It was where I got my first glimpse of the day-to-day diversity (and chaos) of the marketing and communications field from the middle of Times Square in NYC.
From getting a behind-the-scenes look at the operations of ESPN Zone restaurant where I received my first media kit and got a glimpse into how they integrated their media communications beyond the SportsCenter desk and into restaurants, to attending a Motown Records new artist signing, and most notably (a 17-year-olds pinch me moment) being front row at TRL (Total Request Live) it was an amazing and memorable experience.
It was more than the glitz and glamour of the experience. I came back to my small town in Central New York with more than just arms full of swag for my teachers and classmates. I came back knowing that I had found the direction I wanted to go in life. I am forever grateful for that experience and the direction it has taken me.
